Games MDA

MDA in games was something I've not heard of before this week. I feel this is an interesting breakdown of game development and definitely makes me reconsider my approach to developing a game.

Upon reflection of the readings, my favourite games include all the 8 abstractions. The best games I've played do give a sense of pleasure, are make-belief, give a great sense of drama, prove to be a challenge, highlights fellowship. They always feature a strong sense of discovery both territorial and of self. Some of these games obviously focus on one of these aspects more so than the others which give them their own aesthetic. Most importantly they all serve as an enjoyable pastime.

When I read about all the games with reoccurring mechanics I began to think of games from different genres that shared similar mechanics, this made me have a much greater understanding of the game's dynamics all together. This reading has definitely been an eye opener and will be something I'll keep mind as my project progresses.
